As the head-men “jumbie”
the masses to whip up popular support, it matters not how the
pendulum swings as the citizens would never be able to ascertain
the truth.
By his admission in Parliament Patrick Manning has “set-up”
himself for two possible charges: perverting the course of justice
and misbehaviour in public office.
His legal response he eloquently read in the Lower House might
just be sufficient evidence to land him in trouble.
However, my other apprehension is the brazen challenge by the
Attorney General John Jeremie and his high-price spin doctor and
PR adviser Maxie Cuffie to “mess” with the freedom
of the Press.
Apparently, they are of the firm conviction that God has given
them the divine right to leak stories to certain journalist and
only their doctrine should be fed to the news-hungry public.
Undoubtfully, Jeremie has prostituted the office of Attorney General
and degraded it into a glorified police investigation unit.
Remember the Vernon Paul issue when Ganga Singh called for a Commission
of Inquiry the AG proclaimed in Parliament that after interviewed
Bilal Abdullah he saw no need for that action?
In the same breath, he reiterated that he did not have the temerity
to question John Donaldson about the saga of the water tank scandal.
Well, if he utilised a similar methodology to evaluate the Chief
Justice’s innocence or guilt then the masses should take
his words with a pinch of salt.
Now that I have set the records straight on the ranker’s
fiasco, the issue that is equivalently important is the ungrateful
behaviour of this nation to FIFA Vice-President and CONCACAF President
Jack Austin Warner -- although, I sincerely believe that Warner
has done a very good job over the years of defending himself and
maybe does not need my support in his constant battle in the land
of his birth by his detractors, when I heard his account of Jennings’
actions.
It has struck a chord that “White still means right”
in this former colony and once you are of African or Indian origin
“dog eat your supper” or “crapaud smoke yuh
pipe”.
As a matter of fact, I am firmly of the opinion that Jack has
committed three unpardonable sins: he’s not a member of
the chosen minority ethnic group, his economic resources has not
changed his class consciousness and last but not least he has
bluntly refused to be a bearer of the balasier doctrine.
Despite, the fact that he has engraved his name as a ranker in
the administration of football in the international arena and
his economic fortunes have changed, Warner has never gotten “rich
and switched” he has maintained the common touch.
His humility has been abused by journalists, political opponents,
footballers and haters whose agenda is to blow hot and cold conveniently.
Without a doubt, the masses are conscious that both past and present
governments never really focussed on any meaningful development
of sports and culture.
Therefore, it took someone with dreams, vision and patience to
champion the cause and eventually achieve the goal of being the
smallest nation in the universe to qualify for the coveted World
Cup fame and glory.
No one can deny the facts that on many occasions Warner has admitted
that he’s not perfect and has taken responsibility for his
actions whether wrong or misunderstood.
It’s common knowledge that this country is the capital of
small talk and mauves langue and, as a result, we have developed
a culture of lawlessness by high officials slandering and using
irresponsible innuendoes to smudge the reputation of our local
heroes.
Other than being a deputy political leader of the UNC, what has
Jack done to this nation for nationals to rally behind a foreign
“White” journalist who is hellbent on dragging his
name through the mud on the eve of our departure, while the masses
were celebrating the achievement of our national footballers?
As citizens of this country, our differences of opinions must
not be misconstrued as a yardstick to erode our sense of national
pride. Likewise, we should be free to exercise the privilege of
our democracy, by calling a spade a spade.
For, certainly, Jennings would never attempt to do what he did
to Warner in any other country celebrating such a great achievement.
The spoiler would certainly have felt the wrath of the masses
for being and obstructionist in the height of our victory celebrations.
Since it is widely rumoured that Jennings had dialogue with certain
high government officials, the sordid affair has taken a political
twist and it appears to be part of a political ploy to embarrass
the FIFA executive.
Everyone is aware that the authorities are playing games with
the funding for the team and if Warner did not finance the venture
with his hard-earned dollars, the team would never come close
to qualifying for the World Cup.
For the local sports journalists who supported Jennings’
actions and are attending the World Cup in Germany, the masses
are expecting to see some footage of their hero, the author of
Foul making a fool of himself and harassing president Sepp Blatter
and other FIFA officials.
As the bunch of ungrateful free-loaders and opportunist sports
journalist and government officials journey to Germany to enjoy
the pleasure of the World Cup, their conscience must convict them
and they have to resolve the fundamental contradiction that without
Jack, this mission would have been impossible.
It’s an historical fact that a king is not recognised in
his own town and even though the masses have been brainwashed
and Warner demonised by certain sector of the media and their
foreign counterpart, his achievements and commitment to football
are incontestable.
So no British journalist pushing a colonial head could reverse
the fame and glory this country has struggled to accomplish by
qualifying for the World Cup and the nation must give Jack his
jacket and to hell with Jennings and his “roast foul”.
Get thee hence, Satan!
