EVEN as the seriously injured lay waiting for help to come their way, it was the side show put on by curious onlookers at the scene of last Sunday’s accident at the intersection of the Tarouba Junction, Marabella which attracted the most attention.

A van and a car had collided.

Cops had to eventually arrest two of the rowdy onlookers who, despite several warnings, kept on criticising and “cussing” the officers for failing to arrive on the accident scene on time.

They accused them of being 45 minutes late.

The Marabella Police Station is located just a few feet away from where the accident occurred.

The drama began around 10 p.m., when two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

All five passengers were injured, including an unidentified man, who flew out of the vehicle on impact.

A rowdy crowd quickly gathered on the scene, as usual putting their spin on things. Some chose to openly criticise and “cuss” the officers.

The cops begged them to behave, but while some desisted, one or two of them continued in a manner which caused the officers to swing into action.

Two of them were arrested and thrown into the police car and taken to the nearby Marabella Police Station.

Meanwhile fire officers had to rescue the bleeding passengers from their respective vehicles.

They were taken by ambulance to the San Fernando General Hospital where they were warded. Following the smash-up and as he lay writhing in pain, Anil Ramdass, the van driver begged the other injured passengers and onlookers to forgive him.

He cried out loudly: “God ah sorry, ah beg for forgiveness.”
