‘Why bamboo railing in this day and age?’

STRANGE as it may be, the Ministry of Works recently installed bamboo railing at a location along Calcutta #2 Main Road, Freeport.

While residents admitted that they lived unsafely without the rails for years, they said, whoever was responsible for the work, could have done better.

“Was there a cost overrun for the building of the railing?

“Why bamboo in this day and age?” asked a shocked resident.

When TnT Mirror visited the area last Thursday, the residents claimed they did not know who were responsible for erecting the railing.

Councillor Premnath Ramnath, who represents the area, was, however, able to shed some light on the matter.

He said the railing was placed by Ministry of Works.

He said work would commence shortly on the canal. He expects a new railing to be constructed afterwards.

But resident said they really expect that kind of job from Community Environment Protection and Enhancement Programme (CEPEP) or Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) but not from the Ministry of Works.
