‘Over-sex’ killed Davidson
Notorious businessman was a glutton for erection drugs

By AZAD ALI
Former insurance executive Dennis Davidson had to turn to sex tablets, used for erectile dysfunction to maintain his “macho” image – to prove to women he was not a “softman”.

The 62-year-old Davidson, who was described as a “ladies man” and an over-sexed lecher, died of a heart attack and stroke last week.

His close friends are saying that the flamboyant businessman, who fathered 13 children with 12 women, was “hooked” on Cialis, a sex drug (like Viagra), which improves a man’s erection ability and allows him to maintain the “hardest hard”.

Davidson, who up to last year was operating the “Half a Mile” Pub at Curepe Junction, staging strip-tease shows with sexy teenage girls, always associated himself with young women and wanted to “go the extra mile” in bed with them.

But he had to turn to Cialis to show his sexual prowess to prove “age is just a number”, according to calypsonian the Mighty Sparrow, one of his friends said.

A Curepe pharmacist confirmed to TnT Mirror that Davidson used to buy supplies of the drug on a regular basis at the Curepe drug store.

Medical experts say that while sex drugs like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra (all used for erectile dysfunction) have been approved by the US Federal Drug Administration and are relatively safe, they must be taken under medical supervision.

“A number of men just hear about these drugs and use them without consulting their doctors to get a medical check-up or to get advice on the effects of the medication on their health,” one doctor said.

“Men who suffer from cardiovascular disease, and use these drugs without consulting a doctor can run the risk of a heart attack,” the medical practitioner noted.

“Some men who suffer from diabetes, associated with impotence also turn to these sex drugs,” he pointed out.

When Davidson used to host lavish parties some years ago at his Valsyan home, with government officials and former great West Indies cricketers as guests, he made sure he always had sexy women to entertain them.

“Davidson was a womaniser.

“He used to boast how good the sex drugs were working in his life,” a business associate said.

Davidson shot into the limelight some two decades when he reached his pinnacle in the insurance industry.

He was made a member of the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table in l982 after selling over $50 million in insurance. But when the country started to feel the effects of a failing oil-boom in the l980s and the economy began to decline, the government instituted strict foreign exchange regulations to stop a drain on US dollar reserves.

This opened the way for Davidson to get involved in an EC (Exchange Control) racket to sell US currency through forged EC application forms.

He was later charged with conspiracy to defraud the Government of US$100 million through the EC racket.

However, before the police could arrest him, Davidson fled to the United States in l987. While on the run, he was held in Florida on a TnT warrant and sent back to Trinidad to face trial. He managed to escape all his fraud charges.

Davidson is the second well-known person to die after taking sex tablets in recent times.

Former Calypso Monarch the Mystic Prowler used to take Viagra and drink puncheon rum or Guinness before sex.

The deadly concoction caused Prowler to also suffer a heart attack and die.

One of his close friends “Sharky” said the humourous calypsonian wanted to give the young girls a “run for their money”.
