THE
blue scaffolding, which had just collapsed, bringing down with it
several workmen who were way up in the air, on the eighth floor,
looked more like broken spaghetti.
And almost everyone rushing to the scene of last Tuesday’s
mid-morning accident at the construction site of the new Customs
and Excise building at Richmond Street, Port of Spain, is thanking
God that up to that time no fatalities were recorded.
Of the 20 workers who came toppling down from almost 100 feet, five
were listed in critical condition up to Presstime.

Medical sources revealed that one worker who has
undergone emergency surgery could lose his leg.
Swift response from the Emergency Health Services (EHS) brought
the situation under control.
Minister of Labour Danny Montano and Health Minister John Rahael
visited the site.
