Added to his relationships in Trinidad, sources close to the family
told Mirror that Maharajh claimed to have fathered a child with
a woman he lived with for years in Canada.
In fact, Mirror understands that he was planning to return to the
woman in Canada.
Maharajh was beaten to death in the bedroom of his home on Chacon
Street, San Fernando, last January 11.
Police believe the doctor was tortured before his death.
The doctor’s ribs were broken and his head bashed in.
He was found unconscious, lying face down, hands tied with wire
and duct tape covering his mouth. Sumatie Enal made the discovery.
One week after, funeral rites for the murdered doctor had not been
done.
Enal, who was known by Maharajh’s relatives to be his maid,
claimed to be his common-law wife.
Maharajh’s relatives and Enal have since been locked in a
court battle which saw her successfully getting a writ to stop his
cremation by them on Saturday.
Justice Peter Jamadar, in a special sitting last Friday, acceded
to this request and granted Enal control of Maharajh’s estate.
The doctor’s relatives, through Senior Counsel Charles Seepersad,
have since filed legal action seeking a variation of Jamadar’s
injunction order.
The funeral was rescheduled for Wednesday (January 18) but family
matters were locked in a court hearing for a postponement, to allow
for further pathology testing by a private pathologist.
Maharajh’s relatives are now questioning the sudden death
of his mother, Myna Maharajh, 10 months ago.
“She was not ill,” a relative told Mirror.
