A FRIENDLY argument quickly
erupted into a bottle throwing frenzy on the Brian Lara Promenade,
Port of Spain last Sunday.
The incident took place mere minutes after the much-anticipated
Damien “Junior Gong” Marley concert held at the Hasely
Crawford Stadium came to an end.
Casino workers who had just finished working occupied most of the
area where the incident took place.
An eyewitness revealed that the group of men, who appeared to be
friends, was liming on the promenade opposite Royal Castle around
three that morning, shortly before the incident occurred.
While they were liming a small argument broke out between two of
the men in the group.
A loud shouting match ensued between both men as other members of
the group began “picking sides”.
Shortly after the noisy argument began “all hell broke loose,”
the eyewitness said.
Without any warning one of the men began throwing beer bottles at
the others who opposed him causing other people who were not involved
in the squabble to dodge the missiles.
That was when the war began and the men began running frantically
up and down the promenade throwing bottles at each other without
a care for innocent folks in the vicinity.
The raucus caused shocked drivers to pull alongside the promenade
to catch a glimpse of the episode.
The bottle-throwing fiasco went on for about 20 minutes before a
police patrol intervened.
One curious onlooker fumed: “The police mobile unit and the
Eye in the Sky were so close to the occurrence, why they took so
long to respond?”
He further added that it was a concert night and police were supposed
to be on high alert for any type of strange activities.
Eyewitnesses revealed that one man was handcuffed and thrown into
a nearby police vehicle. |
