Beyond question,
it’s crystal clear that he has affiliated himself with a clique
of petit bourgeois, has-been politicians, whose supreme aspirations
are to occupy themselves with Saturday morning breakfasts and small
talk, dotting their Is and crossing their Ts.
Dookeran has accomplished absolutely nothing to galvanise the support
of the masses.
If he surmises that walking from community to community is adequate
to inspire support for his candidacy then he’s in for a discourteous
awakening.
Rather than literally squander his money and waste time with his
current slate of political deadbeats, his money could be usefully
disbursed captivating the attention of the grassroots.
When he proclaimed a new type of politics, the masses contemplated
he would deviate from the norm and solicit the suggestions from
the man in the streets, so that his policies and strategies would
assuredly have the touch of the common man.
However, he has taken the approach similar to that of all other
politicians whose role is to coast a high man play on the masses,
so he congregates with his big-shot strategists and comes with their
misconceptions to embezzle the masses’ heads.
Presently, this has been the ruination of most politicians who maintain
that the man in the street is simply a voting machine and their
ideas are of no consequence to the party’s manifesto or economic
and social policies.
Unless you are a graduate from some distinguished university or
an associate of the petit bourgeois class, you are relegated to
the street soldier rank and your roles and functions are clearly
defined. Therefore, this clearly expounds the types of figurine
that turn up at the breakfast forum that Dookeran and his inner
circles orchestrate.
If Winston feels that I am not speaking the truth, then I challenge
him to identify the roots-men in his strategy committee and to say
if any working class members representing the people ever attended
his breakfast circus.
Clearly, this has absolutely nothing to do with the proletariat
but the intellectual whose aim is to formulate policies that the
hoi polloi have to accept without being part of the process.
The populace is observing the present quandary affecting the UNC.
They are conscious that Dookeran is not handling the matter with
dignity and decorum.
Although, I have not attended a UNC meeting in a long while, the
reports that I have been receiving indicate that he’s not
conducting himself as a true alternative leader.
From what I have been told, the pettiness is so absurd that he sometimes
walks off the stage when his Opposition Leader approaches the podium.
If these versions are the truth then Dookeran’s announcement
of a new type of politics is something the masses have to look at
with serious scepticism.
Imagine this man is striving to lead this country and he does not
have the skills and ability to negotiate a simple transaction with
the Bas and more than that, he does not even have the charisma to
command the majority support of the UNC parliamentarians to be able
to challenge the Bas for the position of Opposition Leader.
Sometimes, it is disheartening to believe that big men could be
easily deluded with these opinion polls.
On many occasion, I have attempted to ascertain from friends if
they were ever fortunate to be interviewed by the trick-stars and
no one has ever been that lucky.
If I were Dookeran, no McAl poll would swell my head.
Instead, I would concentrate on dealing with the masses so that
when the election bell rings, everything should be organised.
The petit bourgeois controllers of Winston’s political predestination,
by now should be knowledgeable enough to recognise that he cannot
make it politically on his own.
Any attempt to break ranks with the UNC, would nullify his bid to
gain political power.
He would certainly be subjected to the same fate as Karl Hudson
Phillips and ONR.
No political party divided could beat the People’s National
Movement (PNM), so it’s important that the whisperers who
are currently ill-advising Winston should understand that unless
he adjusts his strategies and concentrate on focusing on the grass-root
supporters he would evolve as a nonentity in the politics.
This is a gentle reminder to Dookeran and his confidants who apparently
did not learn their lesson and, maybe, are suffering from amnesia
or failure to respect the trouncing he acquired from Hulsie Bhaggan
in the elections of 1991.
Although the Bas has not been very kind to him and failed to keep
his promises, he has to manoeuvre and strategise to deal with the
situation proficiently without further dividing the party.
The masses are already denouncing him as being a front man for the
National Alliance for Reconstruction (NAR), who they have already
relegated to the political dustbin and are not prepared to support
at any cost.
Now that the Bas has taken the initiative to embrace Ramesh Maharaj,
Dookeran must not appear to the masses, as a namby-pamby or yellow-belly
who is running from the challenge.
He must confront the oppressors and deal with the issues. If he’s
yearning to be considered as a responsible leader and someone ambitious
to be the prime minister, Dookie has to demonstrate to the multitude
that he has the testicular fortitude to resist and subjugate or
quell these minor internal problems.
Only then would Dookeran be able to regain his position in politics
and the masses would refrain from referring to him as “duck
and run”. |
