INDIAN employers are hiding
toilet paper from African workers.
That is how far racial abuse has reached at the Chaguanas Borough
Corporation, according to some employees.
“Everyday I have to deal with Indian workers calling me nigger
and Black and ugly,” said one frustrated African employee.
TnT Mirror was told that African workers are subjected to racial
discrimination on a daily basis.
“The Indian workers laugh at me as soon as I come to work,”
explained another employee.
“At one time I was working on a project outside of the office
and rain began to fall,” the employee explained.
“An Indian supervisor passed and picked up the Indian employees
in his vehicle and left me standing in the rain.
“When I spoke about the incident, I was victimised even more,”
the employee continued.
“Toilet and soap are sent for all the employees, but just
to spite me the Indian workers hide mine and tell me that not enough
was sent,” said the employee.
Mirror was also told that when the matter was reported to another
senior boss, it was swept under the carpet.
“However, we spoke to the union and they agreed to address
the matter,” said another employee.
“I asked for a transfer but was told that I cannot get one
until I have worked two full years at the corporation,” continued
the employee.
“So they are telling me that I have to stay here and take
all this humiliation and verbal abuse day after day,” added
the employee.
When Mirror spoke to no-nonsense Mayor Suruj Rambachan, he said
he was unaware of the problem as no one reported the matter to him.
“If I knew of such an incident I would have dealt with it
already,” said the mayor. That kind of behaviour is not right
at all and I will look into it,” he added. |
