“It’s going to be the biggest, baddest jam ever.
“Imagine me and Kumar Sanu mashing up the fete.
“Oh my gosh!” exclaimed Montano, who couldn’t
hide his excitement.
“Sanu is big in the East Indian entertainment world. He is
a household name to almost a billion people in India alone with
a very big international fan following, and you know me, your boy
Machel, we going to introduce soca to Bollywood in an unforgettable
concert that’s going to be a defining moment in the unification
and marriage of two colourful cultures.
“Sanu, who is no stranger to Trinidad and Tobago, is equally
excited about this but he has to get back to me with a final confirmation,”
Machel said.
Added to the international mix of entertainers would be Japan’s
singing sensation, the super sexy Minmi, whose videos are being
featured on Synergy TV as well as from North America, England and
Germany.
Accompanying Minmi will be dancehall queen Junko Bashment, along
with an entourage of other performers from the land of the Rising
Sun.
Junko made a big impression in TnT with her contortionist dance
flexing abilities two years ago while appearing at a number of Carnival
fetes with Montano and his band, Xtatik.
Meanwhile, Machel will release two chutney soca tunes over the weekend
-- a collaboration entitled Like Bollywood with Drupatee Ramgoonai
and the group All Together (AT) Crew, and another, O Larki, with
Andy Singh and SS Melobugs.
Singing snatches of verse and chorus of both tunes, the Xtatik bandleader
said: “Hmm, are these tunes hot or what!”
“O Larki,” he said, while demonstrating a little chutney
dance move, “is a real fiery one, if I tell you it hot, it
hot. I enjoyed working with Andy and Melobugs on this number.
“When you hear the real thing you will understand what I’m
talking about. This could be the first soca chutney tune to win
a national Road March title!”
The recording of Like Bollywood with Drupatee started even before
last Carnival.
“Well you know Drupatee is my darling, I did my first soca
chutney with her.
“She is very talented and when it comes to putting down tracks
for a song, she is very particular.
“I like her for that.” |
