Check out Soca Warriors website

By BIBI KHAN

A MEMORANDUM of understanding has been signed between the Ministry of Tourism and the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) to develop a website to promote the Soca Warriors team as well as tourist attractions in our twin isle Trinidad and Tobago.

Tourism Minister Senator Howard Chin Lee said at the official launch of the Soca Warriors website held at Crowne Plaza that a focal point was needed that would provide information about the team and their background.

He said of the site: “There is no other website on the net showcasing a team and its country at the same time.

“The site is designed to provide background information about the team … and to provide information about TnT.”

The website uniform resource locator (URL) is www.socawarriorstt.com.

Chin Lee, however, admitted that the site still needed more work saying that it would grow and expand as the weeks go by.

An electronic logo has also been added to the package.

The logo will be carried by both local and regional co-op sponsors and will be seen beneath their advertisements in the electronic media.

“This logo will also be run as an ad by itself locally, regionally and internationally to advertise the website and drive people to it,” he said.

He also revealed that three mayors from the cities of Germany-Dortmund, Nuremburg and Kaiserslautern would be visiting the country for Carnival and would together plan a marketing strategy in those cities for June 2007.

The Tourism Ministry, he said, would be unleashing aggressive public relations programmes around “the team’s friendly games” scheduled for February 28 in the United Kingdom.

And the Tourism Development Company will also be stepping up its marketing programmes by redeveloping their website www.visittnt.com.

Andre Laveau Communications Manager at the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs who spoke on behalf of the absent Roger Boynes said that he managed to have gotten a sneak peak of the Soca Warriors website and was astounded by the photographs he saw in the photo gallery.

He quoted St. Lucian poet and Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott saying that: “Trinidad and Tobago is a big idea in a small country.”
