SUPPORTERS
of the United National Congress (UNC) were sure from the start of
the National Assembly that they wanted Political Leader Winston
Dookeran out of the party.
Members of the crowd acted almost impatient when the proceedings
to move the motion to remove Dookeran prolonged.
At one point during the address by former Prime Minister of St.
Vincent and the Grenadines Sir James Mitchell, some supporters were
calling for the motion to be moved.
“We come to move out Dookeran,” supporters shouted.
The supporters braved the inclement weather to attend the national
assembly.
Some even sat in the rain with umbrellas to listen to the speakers.
The motion was finally moved by a constituent of St. Joseph.
But supporters were not allowed to vote on the motion as Deputy
Political Leader Wade Mark explained that voting will take place
after Panday explains the development of talks with Dookeran.
The supporters listened but when Panday asked for more time to speak
with Dookeran the angry crowd rebelled.
The UNC supporters even used obscenities to explain their disgust
with Dookeran and chanted “we don’t want Dookeran”
loudly.
The crowd moved closer to the podium to voice their expressions.
The crowd’s response brought Panday to tears.
The assembly was eventually aborted, as the crowd could not be controlled.
Earlier, Deputy Leader Jack Warner urged the crowd to look at the
rain as blessings.
He said, “I walked in the rain for 10 miles and I did not
use an umbrella.”

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar told the crowd that the
more the People’s National Movement (PNM) and Prime Minister
Patrick Manning stay in power, democracy gets worse.
“The existence of democracy in this country is directly
linked to the PNM.
“Both our procedural and substantive democracy are being
violated each day by the Manning regime,” Persad-Bissessar
said.
