SENIOR cops at the
Sangre Grande Police Station have seized the station’s diary
as investigations continue into a brawl in a bar in the area involving
a policeman and two brothers a week ago.
Investigators are now interviewing the four officers who were
involved in the arrest of the brothers, for allegedly beating
one of their colleagues attached to the Sangre Grande Task Force.
The high drama began when three off-duty lawmen were “liming”
in a bar on the Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande when a glass
fell from the hand of one of the patrons.
One of the lawmen got into an argument with the man after the
glass fell.
The row led to a fight between one of the officers and the man.
When the man’s brother tried to intervene he was arrested
by the two officers.
Another officer who is on sick leave (suffering from a broken
hand) came to their rescue and pulled off the man who was fighting
with the drunken cop.
When the East Indian officer got up from the ground he started
cursing and using racial remarks to the African descent policeman.
However, the officers decided to take the two brothers down to
the station, followed by the drunken officer.
While on their way to the station the drunken constable, bleeding
from a wound to the head began cussing “wind” and
verbally abused the officer who tried to help him.
On arrival at the station, officers had to restrain him and took
the drunken officer to the back of the station to “cool
off.”
He was advised to the hospital for treatment but instead headed
home where he took out his rage on his wife and son.
The police rescued them and they were taken to the home of a relative.
The drunken officer remained hiding inside and did not come out.
The two brothers were also sent to the Sangre Grande Hospital
for treatment but no charges were laid.
Curious onlooker cried shame on the drunken officer.
