DALE
ENOCH, president of the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM)
has given his colleague John Victor, president of the almost dead
Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MATT) an ultimatum of
one week to set “a new date for a general election to discuss
the way forward and allow for a new mandate.”
Enoch a former president of the local media body described his call
as one “to get the association out of the coma it has been
in for the past two years.

DALE ENOCH:
“MATT too silent,
unassertive.”
|
Since succeeding Enoch
as president, the Victor-led MATT executive has failed to hold
the interest or motivate members of the media fraternity.
Speaking on behalf of the ACM, Enoch stated: “We in the
ACM are fully aware of the challenges you and your executive have
faced over the past two years.
“It should also be noted that your issues are not unique
and have been experienced by far too many associations in the
region.
“When these situations occur, innovative ways must be found
to motivate and empower members.
“It is clear your executive has not been able to do that.
“The failed attempt to hold a general meeting and election
recently was indicative of this.
“There is an obvious lack of interest on the part of the
members and it appears now that what was once the most vibrant
journalist body in the region is dying.”
The ACM said it also noted that “several issues in Trinidad
and Tobago and the region, on which MATT has been too silent,
missing opportunities to assert itself and make its members feel
protected.
“This is unacceptable and defeats the purpose for which
national associations function.”
