Monday.
Angry villagers were protesting the shooting of Shazard Mohammed
who was shot during an incident with a Coast Guard patrol last Saturday.
Imam David Mohammed was arrested when he attempted to go on the
South-bound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway.
Police took the imam away to a nearby area.
He was reportedly searched and found to be in possession of a gun.
Angry protestors followed as the police took the imam away.
He was eventually released.
The imam told reporters that the gun was licensed.
He also said that he was the imam of the Felicity mosque and that
he was crossing the highway to go to the mosque to pray.

The protest heated up with the arrival of the Imam.
He chanted “God is Great” in Arabic and his Muslim
brothers and sisters followed.
Before, the protestors stood quietly and obeyed instructions from
police officers of the Central Division who earlier begged for
no confrontation during a protest.
Officers told protestors of Francis Lalla Street, Charlieville
that they could not stand on the road and obstruct the way.
The protestors then stood aside.
One Cpl. Williams spoke to Chaguanas MP, Manohar Ramsaran, who
was in the protest.
The officer asked the MP what the protestors wanted to achieve.
Ramsaran said the protestors wanted the truth about the incident
from the Coast Guard.
Cpl. Williams further explained to Ramsaran that they did not
want any confrontation and that protestors should conduct the
protest in a uniform manner.
Officers showed great understanding and patience, unlike their
colleagues from the riot squad.
