THE city of San Fernando last Tuesday saw a poor turnout for its first attempt at annual Emancipation celebrations, which included a street parade from Pointe-a-Pierre Roundabout to San Fernando.

And the handful of people at the function on Harris Promenade, blamed it all on the heavy exodus of the people from the southland to witness celebrations in north.

“The Ministry (Culture) does send bus and maxi all over the country to take up cultural groups and carry them in town to dance on the streets of Port of Spain,” said one disappointed supporter.

As usual the streets of Port of Spain saw thousands from all over TnT dance and chant to the strains of heavy drumming.

Following a short ceremony at the roundabout, the small group marched into the city accompanied by drumming and rhythm sounds of Ella Andall.

A libation ceremony was later performed on the promenade followed by speeches and later cultural performances.
