POLICE say they have made
a breakthrough in the rape, kidnapping and robbery spree along the
East-West Corridor, with the arrest of four young men from Arima.
The men, whose ages range from 17 - 22, were held in a stolen vehicle
in the Arima area, last week.
Following intensive investigations by Arima CID detectives, they
were charged with 17 counts of rape, kidnapping and robbery.
They appeared last Friday before Arima Magistrate Deborah Quintin
Thomas and refused bail.
They were remanded in custody to re-appear on Thursday (April 13).
Last week, TnT Mirror reported exclusively that a gang operating
in a car had gone on a rampage, picking up women awaiting transportation
at nights in the Laventille, Morvant, Arouca and Arima areas, driving
them to lonely places and raping them.
The women were also robbed of jewellery and cash.
Police received 15 reports from victims raped under the pretext,
“the driver was working ‘PH’.”
Investigations were carried out by Inspector John Daniel, Corporals
Wayne Winston and Basdeo Sinanan and Constables Newton and Katwaroo.
