Digicel’s $49 phone creates new ‘madness’

By JOELINE THOMAS

A CHARLOTTE Street, Port of Spain drug store temporarily shut down sale of pharmaceuticals last Wednesday to accomodate long lines of people waiting to buy cellphones.

The Digicel cellphone “madness” reached its all time high at the drug store as several people rushed to catch the latest bargains on mobile phones, which hit a surprise low of $49.

The incident took place during the lunch period.

Folks waiting in line for prescription medicines were abruptly turned away due to the massive cellphone demand.

Several annoyed patrons found the move to be unethical and tasteless.

During the height of the rush for phone a mini melee broke out between drugstore staff and a female costumer who had waited in line for almost four hours to make her purchase.

The trouble started when she made a third unsuccessful attempt to put a card onto the phone and the handset locked.

When she informed the sales clerks about the situation she was told to take her complaint to the company’s marketing personnel.

The woman became outraged and fumed: “If the phone giving trouble all they had to do was change it for me; they sending me quite on Independence Square to see a technician.”

After boisterously stating her point, the woman left the store.

The problem was eventually rectified.
