Sturge drove off
quickly.
Speaking with TnT Mirror from his Port-of Spain office later, Sturge
said he felt threatened since he heard the ominous words.
But he said this would not scare him into giving up the matter.
Darryl Giles, the former lawyer for the 13-year-old, had stepped
down last week from the matter, also citing threats.
Policemen on horses were deployed to control the small crowd in
front of the courthouse.
The two accused were brought to court in a heavily tinted vehicle
that drove to the back of the courthouse.
The crowd shouted: “Show they face!
“Stop hiding the criminals.”
Sean Luke’s relatives complained they were being treated unfairly.
While his father, Daniel Luke stood and cried openly on the roadway,
members of the accused’s family were allowed to enter the
court’s compound.
However, once the matter was called, four of Luke’s relatives
were allowed to enter the courtroom.
The two accused appeared before Magistrate Maria Ayres-Caesar and
the matter was adjourned to April 28.
The elder of the accused smiled as the two were escorted out of
the courthouse.
But the angry crowd shouted: “Kill them, kill them,”
as they were taken away.
Luke’s cousin, Sudish Binda said the family was still suffering
hurt and pain greatly.
He told Mirror no member of the family has returned to work since
the incident.
Binda added he would not be able to forgive anyone responsible in
Luke’s killing. |
