33 charges after two years of serious sex abuse
Interpol hunts child rapist fireman

By AZAD ALI
A “SICKO” fireman, who kept his 10-year-old stepdaughter as a sex slave for two years, is now on the run and has been placed on the Police Most Wanted List.

Police are also seeking the help of Interpol to track down the 33-year-old man following reports that he is trying to flee to the United States, after 33 charges including rape, buggery, indecent assault, grievous sexual assault and serious indecency, were slapped against him last week.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest and police have also alerted airlines and the airports to be on the lookout for the officer.

Investigators say they received information that the fireman with 10 years service resigned from his job last week.

Since then he has gone into hiding.

The girl, who has been hiding with her 34-year-old mother for the past three months and was not allowed to attend school, will get an opportunity to join thousands of other 11-plus schoolchildren writing the SEA Examination this week, following arrangements made by police.

But she would not have the moral support of her mother who was charged with preventing the child from giving the police a statement.

The woman who was called before the Sangre Grande Court was also charged with preventing a child of compulsory school age from attending school.

She was refused bail by Magistrate Cheryl- Ann Blake and remanded into custody at Golden Grove Prison to re-appear on April 12.

The fire officer’s 54-year-old father faces 20 sex charges similar to his son.

He is a public health officer who lived in the same house with his son, common-law wife and the girl.

He was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 to re-appear in court on Friday.

Police investigations into the sex attack on the girl started in January when the mother made a report to the Sangre Grande Police.

But when police were moving to take a statement from the girl, it is alleged that the fire officer hid them in a house in Temple Street, Arima.

He was able to secure American visas for himself, the mother and child.

Reports are that the fireman was planning to take them to New York before any charges could be filed.

But last week investigators got a tip-off and went to Temple Street where the girl was rescued from a house and the mother was held.

The girl reported that she was made to perform all kinds of sex acts, including oral sex on both the fireman and his father between 2003 and August 2005.

Police say it would appear that the fireman was unaware of his father also having sex with the girl.

Officers involved in the investigation were Cpl. Lalla, WPC Beverley Paul and PC Anil Baboolal of the Sangre Grande Police Station. Baboolal laid the charges.

The girl’s mother is being represented by attorney Verne Richards.
