Their Board of Directors include Lawrence Duprey, Michael Anthony
Fifi, Peter Salvary, Russell Martineau; Louis Monteil and Geoffrey
Leid.
Quite an impressive team I must say!
So why can’t a team like this turn around Valpark Plaza?
Information reaching this office suggests that there is a great
deal of land and property speculation going on especially between
the conglomerates.
Closer examination of the facts may prove this to be true.
By off-loading Valpark to Ansa Mc Al, the later will automatically
eliminate their nearest competition in terms of the mall business.
Furthermore, they will be able to construct townhouses in what would
be the former Valpark compound, providing centrally located accommodations
for a certain clientele (who will no longer be restricted to the
west). It is reported that Ansa Mc Al offered HCL a deal they couldn’t
refuse!
Notwithstanding the aforementioned, I changed focus to the intersection
at the Uriah Butler and Churchill-Roosevelt Highways, where the
proposed interchange is to be constructed.
Information reaching my office suggests that a woman, who recently
constructed apartments in Bamboo Settlement No. 1 (near the school),
sold her property for a whopping $6 million to a Syrian.
This much I do know.
The person or persons purchasing the property must have foreknowledge
of government’s plans for the interchange because no developer
in their right mind will buy a property in Bamboo No. 1 for that
kind of money, not right now.
Simply put, there is a great deal of speculation with help from
insiders within the government.
All stand to make a hefty profit at the end of the day.
All this has left the poor man even more marginalised from the development
of himself and his community.
With no alternative, what is the poor man to do?
Where is he to go?
No wonder they vacated the residents close to the proposed interchange
in such a hurry!
Getting back to Valsayn residents, as I said, for all their money
and their prestige, even they will be unable to withstand this incursion
into their area.
The track record is there to see.
In 2003 when government proposed to build NHA houses in Ramgoolie
Trace, Curepe, on the northern border of Valsayn North, only a few
resolute Valsayn residents stood with us.
The outcome is that construction started on the prime agricultural
site despite protests from the National Food Crop Farmers’
Association.
A year and a half ago, the South Valsayn Residents Association Limited
tried to block the construction of an outlet of Superpharm Ltd.,
on the corner of Morequito Avenue and Kairi Road.
Despite all the lobbying, all the protests and possible legal action
with residents being asked to contribute $1,000 each to the association
for legal costs, it all came to naught.
Superpharm will soon be opened.
And not only that, Morequito Avenue has been widened in record time
to accommodate this opening and the increased traffic into Valsayn.
In this case, it really pays for Superpharm Ltd. to have friends
in high places.
Some people have to wait 20 years for their roads to be paved much
less widened!
The Indian elite have once again lost another battle in this never
ending battle for supremacy.
With the PNM in government, the Syrians are coming out on top on
every occasion.
It really pays to pump money into an election campaign.
The returns can be quite beneficial.
Next, we may loose significant portions of what were Caroni lands.
Well, as the saying goes, “We like it so!”
While the conglomerates work out their deals and the families of
government ministers laugh all the way to the bank, we are forced
to think twice about our surroundings, our politics, and our commitment
to a free society.
Don’t get me wrong, I will be the last person to have anything
against people with “money.”
I believe that if you work hard, and make wise investments, you
should be able to enjoy the benefits of your labour.
My duty, in this instance, is just to report to you what is going
on in your surroundings.
It is up to you to act or don’t act on it.
The ball is now in your court. |
