A CORONER’S inquest
will be held into the death of Anti-Kidnapping Squad policeman,
Carlos Guerra.
Commissioner of Police (CoP) Trevor Paul made the statement in a
media release on Wednesday.
Paul said that a file containing all information on the investigation
was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Geoffrey
Henderson, who issued instructions for the inquest to proceed.
The commissioner also said that PC Sheldon Narine, who was cleaning
his UZI when it accidentally went off and shot Guerra, was suspended
from duty since September 20, 2005 pending the outcome of the inquiry.
Paul stated that the report on the post mortem carried out on Guerra
revealed that he died as a result of one bullet entering the body
through the left upper arm, and not nine bullets wounds, as was
previously reported by other persons in other places.
Guerra died at the Port-of Spain General Hospital shortly after
he was shot last August 11, 2005 at the Old Police Headquarters.
Guerra’s father, Venice Guerra of Cumuto said he was still
grieving for his son.
“I can’t sleep at nights since my son’s death.
“Maybe, I might find peace when justice in my son’s
death is given,” Venice told TnT Mirror. |
