DHANRAJ SINGH, the former Minister of Local Government under the
United National Congress (UNC) is said to be working overtime in
the constituency of Tabaquite for the People’s National Movement
(PNM).
Singh, a former Local Government Minister who shot into the spotlight
when he threatened a police officer with his licensed firearm on
the highway, is separated from his wife.
He, however, holds full custody of the couple’s three children.
But, sources tell Mirror Weekend, that Singh is working in the background
for the party, as he is yet to be christened into the House of the
PNM.
“They don’t mind he is helping, but at the same time
the hierarchy cannot agree with some of the things he has done in
the past,” one source said.

“But, again we
are a forgiving people.”
Singh spent two years in jail, after he was acquitted of the 1999
murder of chairman of the Rio Claro Regional Corporation, Hansraj
Sumarsingh. Mere weeks ago his release fell apart.
A short while later is father died of kidney complications. Singh
has been attending cottage meetings under the banner of the PNM,
as well as its convention earlier this year.
Sources inside Balisier House told Mirror Weekend that Singh was
working with the PNM on making in-roads into the rural agricultural
village.
His involvement with the ruling party has been confirmed by Public
Relations Officer of the PNM, Jerry Narace.
Singh, a diabetic, who was once reportedly under suicide watch
in prison owns and operates a sawmill alongside his mother in
South Trinidad.
He is presently before the courts on 27 corruption charges arising
out of contracts he awarded to a Gulf View contractor during his
tenure as Local Government Minister under the UNC administration.
