Amid cheers and tears, 13-year-old Kinda Stephens from the village of Whim was crowned as the first ever Black Rock Majestic Queen last week Saturday night.
The pageant was organized by the Youth Arm of the Black Rock Action Group of the Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) and was attended by a large crowd including both TOP MPs for Tobago East and West Vernella Alleyne-Toppin and Dr. Delmon Baker, Minority Leader Ashworth Jack, TOP Assemblymen Orville Jordan and Rolly Quaccoo and Councillor Yvette Parks.
All the girls paraded in TOP jerseys and answered TOP-based questions. In the end, it was Kinda who impressed the panel of judges to capture the coveted crown. Her prizes include $1,000 cash, a Blackberry smart phone and six months’ free CXC lessons sponsored by Jack. Placing second was Shannon Allard of Whim, while Joselle Vincent of Shirvan Road placed third. Joselle also captured special prizes for the people’s choice and online voters’ choice.
