FORMER Arima Race Club (ARC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chris Armond is tipped get the newly-created post of general manager of the club.
Discussions are currently taking place with officials of the ARC to appoint Armond to take over from Ken Ogeer, who has been CEO for the past three years.
Ogeer’s contract has come to an end this month but he is holding on until the ARC appoints a general manager.
Some racing officials are saying that Armond has more than 20 years of racing experience, having worked at Caymanas Park, Jamaica as CEO, also holding a similar position with the Barbados Turf Club and the ARC.
He is currently an adviser to the Trinidad and Tobago Racing Authority and was responsible for staging the successful Caribbean Nations Challenge Race Day last December.
Armond has a wealth of experience in the racing industry and was credited with introducing the Claiming System in Trinidad some years ago.
Sources say that Ogeer is reportedly interested in the job but he will not make the grade since he was unable to turn around the fortunes of the sport during his tenure as CEO.
Former ARC management committee member Ken Kong is reportedly also interested in the job.
But some racing officials feel that Kong, who has limited racing experience, may not be suitable.
