EXPRESS political editor Ria Taitt leaves soon for a tour of Japan sponsored by the Japanese Embassy, and it is learnt that she is the only journalist to be chosen from Trinidad and Tobago to visit Japan to see firsthand the country’s reconstruction drive following the deadly Tsunami in 2009.
Taitt, one of the more respected journalists in the country, will join a cadre of her peers from other international press organisations across the globe.
Media Watch hopes Taitt’s dispatches from Japan will be more comprehensive than those of her junior colleague on the political desk, Anna Ramdass, who accompanied Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to India, like the PM, as a guest, we are told, of the Indian Government.
Ramdass’ reports were infrequent and the Express ended up basing most of its reports on online Indian newspapers. But having not paid the piper, the Express was in no position to call the tune.
