HUNDREDS came out for the launch of Regional Carnival 2012 in Mayaro last Saturday.
The event took off at the Mayaro Recreational Ground and saw a number of traditional mas characters parading through the streets of Mayaro.
Minister of Arts of Multiculturalism Minister Winston “Gypsy” Peters, who was present for the launch, said the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism want to preserve the traditions of Carnival.
He said, “We are interested in traditional Carnival and not just bikini and beads.”
Also present were animated characters, jab jabs, blue devils, midnight robbers and moko jumbies.
Chairman of the Regional Carnival Committee, Israfill Ali was also present at the launch and paraded with masqueradors.
