THERE is something big happening in Trinidad and Tobago’s football with the formation of the Veterans Football Association.
Since the present local football fraternity has descended into a very dark abyss, being humbled by Guyana and Grenada, the Veterans are bent on saving and redeveloping the sad plight of T&T football.
To this end, players of yesteryear with international acclaim like Shay Seymour and wheelchair-bound Kenny Akal, Selwyn Murren, Selris Figaro, George Best’s greatest footballer Steve “Smell” David, Charlie Spooner, Eddie Hart, Gwenwyn Cust and Selby Browne, to name a few, are determined to make a significant difference.
After regular brunches and get-togethers at their base at Butcher’s Skating Rink, off Sixth Avenue, Barataria, and thanks to the exigencies of Phillip Butcher, great sporting minds are now a disciplined force to be reckoned with.
The Veterans Football Association had one of their familiar sessions last Sunday, which was spiced with the calypso beat of the land through talented extempo artiste Abebele.
