TRAINERS are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the hearing into the illegal drug use on Joezel, trained by John O’Brien.
The Trinidad and Tobago Racing Authority (TTRA) has scheduled a hearing for Thursday for the champion trainer to explain the use of a painkiller procaine, which Joezel was tested positive for on Caribbean Nations Challenge Race Day, December 3, 2011.
Joezel placed third in the US$50,000 Imported Turf Stayers Challenge Trophy event.
However, urine/blood sample taken from the three-year-old gelding tested positive for a banned drug (Class III), which carries a ban of six months.
A source at the TTRA said it is unlikely that the inquiry will go on and may be put off to another date.
Reports are that a veterinarian had treated the horse with the painkiller and was cleared to race on the inaugural racing festival day but the trainer is held responsible when a horse is tested positive for a banned drug.
