PRIME Minister Bruce Golding stepped in to further quell fears about the Government’s policy concerning the acquisition of prime property from private owners, saying that his administration has no interest in lands owned by the Anglican Church in Jamaica.
However, the prime minister indicated that the Government was interested in partnering with private entities for development purposes, but only after full consultation with all stakeholders.
The prime minister’s statement continued the process of damage control following a controversial speech by general manager of the state-run Urban Development Corporation, Joy Douglas.
Douglas indicated that Government was eyeing the Anglican Church’s Nuttall lands in Cross Roads, for development purposes.
“Prime Minister Bruce Golding says Government has no designs or intention to take over the Nuttall lands in Cross Roads, which are owned by the Anglican Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands,” Minister of Information Daryl Vaz read from the statement at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister.
